The gameplay is responsive but feels just slightly off. The narrator is really well done but the story he tells just feels inconclusive. If I had to describe it in one sentence, I'd say it's not as clever as it thinks it is. It's overlong at just a few hours and by the time you finish it, you just feel like you're going through the motions rather than wanting an actual conclusion (and that conclusion works but you feel like something wasn't properly explained since it feels like they're talking in gibberish about things and events that feels way out of the depth of the story they started out with). The controls are just a few hairs from being perfect and the story never really goes anywhere. I've tried to be fairly impartial above but it is a fantastically fun, fairly short game but beautifully executed. The music is just great ("I dig my hole you build a wall"). The art style, well you can have a look yourself and you'll see that it is stunning. The variety in weapons and accessories is also good fun. The shooting, platforming etc is very tight and I really enjoyed it. Mainly walk through isometric area, laying waste, fight mini-boss type enemy, hurried exit, repeat. The narrator's awesome voice may have helped. For what is an old-fashioned type of actiony game, this isn't something I'd say about many games as I'm usually in it for the gameplay. ![]() It's very accessible and I actually got very engaged in both the story and the characters. It doesn't deal out too much or too little information at a time and introduces you to the lore at what I would call a good pace. The story is fairly simple but well told. It doesn't have much of a loot system but you do build new buildings and gain upgrades for the hub world. ![]() So to desribe it in a fairly prosaic way: The type of game is a probably closest to an isometric dungeon crawler (action, not rpg) where you unlock weapons and upgrades for that system.
